Joe Gqabi District Municipality and it’s entity JOGEDA received Clean Audit Awards from Auditor General’s office at the MunicMEC meeting in recognition for their clean audit results for the 2022/23 financial year. The district’s achievement was further supported by Senqu LM who also received the award. This recognition reflects on the hard work undertaken by the municipalities and entity to implement clean governance and having the systems and records in place to justify their financial and performance status. A clean audit means that financial statements are free from material misstatements (in other words, a financially unqualified audit opinion) and there are no material findings on reporting on performance objectives or non-compliance with legislation. Less than 10% of municipalities and their entities in the Eastern Cape have received this award for the 2023/24 financial year, showing how difficult it is to achieve.
