The Joe Gqabi District Municipality in partnership with JoGeda, under the leadership of Executive Mayor Cllr NP Mposelwa and CEO DR Vuyiwe Marambana, has officially handed over significant water supply projects to four communities in Sterkspruit. The projects will bring improved water infrastructure to Hillside (ward 6), Qhoboshiyane (ward 3), Mmusong (ward 3), and Ndofela (ward 1), marking a major step forward in addressing water access challenges in these areas.
Three experienced contractors have been appointed to execute these critical infrastructure projects. Imbawula Civils will oversee the water supply projects in Hillside and Qhoboshiyane, while Vuxaka Consulting will handle the Mmusong project, and Lesedi Consulting will manage the Ndofela project. All projects are expected to be completed within 6 to 8 months, ensuring that residents will have access to reliable water supply by early 2026.
The water supply projects will create substantial employment opportunities for local residents across all four communities. Each project will hire 15 general workers and 1 Community Liaison Officer, with Qhoboshiyane and Henge Extension sharing 30 general workers and 2 Community Liaison Officers, while Mfiki and Mayisela-Dolosini in Ndofela will also share 30 general workers and 2 Community Liaison Officers. This initiative demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to not only improving infrastructure but also creating jobs and empowering local communities during the construction phase.
