Earlier today, the Executive Mayor of the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Councillor Nomvuyo Mposelwa, received a consignment of firefighting and veld fire suppression equipment on behalf of the municipality from the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (EC-COGTA), Mr Zolile Williams.

This critical support forms part of a partnership between EC-CoGTA and SANTAM, aimed at strengthening disaster management capacity and enhancing community safety across the Eastern Cape.

In her acceptance speech, Cllr Mposelwa said, “Joe Gqabi is a disaster-prone district, therefore we appreciate receiving this valuable equipment to enhance the safety of our people.”

“It is very painful to see houses and livestock – our major economic contributor – burning down and being unable to save them. We commit to safeguarding these resources to ensure they serve their intended purpose within our communities”

With the Joe Gqabi region prone to veld fires during the dry season, this equipment will significantly improve the municipality’s ability to respond swiftly, protect lives and property, and safeguard the environment. 🌾🚒
