The Joe Gqabi District Municipality Special Programmes Unit (SPU) formed part of a Women’s Day Commemoration event hosted by the Department of Social Development, in partnership with Masiphathisane Home Based Care, at Nkululeko Community Hall, Ekhephini.
Led by Cllr Unathi Hlathuka, who also serves as a South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Women Commissioner, the programme brought together various stakeholders to engage with community members on matters affecting women and to promote awareness, empowerment and access to support services.
The programme was supported by key stakeholders including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Legal Aid and the Department of Health.
The District Municipality’s participation forms part of its continued commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the empowerment, safety and well-being of women across the Joe Gqabi District.
