The Joe Gqabi District Municipality’s Executive Mayor Nomvuyo Mposelwa believes that community members need to take charge and safeguard the borehole premises against criminals. She said this on Wednesday (28 February 2024), during her visit with District Council’s Speaker Mzikhona Bomela, to handover borehole infrastructure to communities of Thaleni village in Nqanqaru, Makhatlanyeng village and Westhoek village in Tlokoeng. These boreholes, makes it possible for communities to access clean water in the villages. This is part of Joe Gqabi District Municipality’s Rural Water Supply Project for the 2023-2024 financial year. “Vandalism of municipal infrastructure delays government’s development programme of rendering quality services to our communities”, said Honourable Mayor Mposelwa. This is the first phase of the Joe Gqabi District Municipality and JOGEDA projects, of fulfilling it’s mandate of providing clean water as part of service delivery to communities. The three boreholes were installed with one tap each for community members. The district municipality’s plan is to install tab-lines in different yards for members of the communities. Solar panels are installed on the boreholes to pump water pressure easy. The areas are secured with cameras, barbed wires and electric fence for security reasons. The three projects have created jobs for the people of Thaleni, Makhatlanyeng and Westhoek villages. Ward 1 PR Councillor Millicent Maqanda, Ward 8 Councillor Mpoleng Ndleleni and Ward 10 Councillor Sibanda, together with the leadership of JOGEDA, Unit Head PID Vuyile Dyubeni, Community Engagement Specialist Buyile Madikizela, the team of consultants who made this work possible, Joe Gqabi district municipality and Elundini local municipality officials graced the occasion.
