The Joe Gqabi District Municipality (JGDM) has taken a major step towards improving service delivery with the addition of 29 brand-new bakkies to its municipal fleet. This investment is aimed at enhancing efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness across all service delivery units in the district.
The new vehicles will be deployed to support daily operations on the ground, ensuring that municipal teams are better equipped to reach communities and deliver services effectively and on time.
Speaking during the handover, JGDM Executive Mayor, Councillor (Cllr) Nomvuyo Mposelwa, described the acquisition as a clear demonstration of responsible financial management.
“The procurement of these vehicles is an important step towards cost containment. We will no longer need to hire vehicles, which helps us cut down on unnecessary expenditure”, she said. JGDM Fleet Manager, Mr Luigi Kroutz, echoed her words – expanding that “this forms part of our commitment to using public resources responsibly”.
Cllr Mposelwa also urged drivers to use and maintain the vehicles responsibly to ensure their longevity and continued benefit to communities across the district.
This milestone reflects the municipality’s ongoing commitment to strengthening capacity, improving service delivery, and ensuring value for money for residents of the Joe Gqabi District.
