The Eastern Cape MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Honourable Xolile Nqatha, joined by the Joe Gqabi District Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Nomvuyo Mposelwa, today led a Stock Theft Indaba and presented the 3rd Quarter Crime Statistics for the 2025/2026 financial year at Sonwabile Community Hall in Nqanqarhu.
The engagement brought together farmers, community members, law enforcement agencies, security stakeholders, and government leaders to discuss the growing challenge of stock theft affecting rural communities across the district and province at large.
Also in attendance were the Mayor of Elundini Local Municipality, Cllr M.S. Leteba, alongside representatives from the South African Police Service, and key stakeholders committed to strengthening the combat of stock theft.
In his Keynote Address, MEC Nqatha highlighted the need for a united front between police, traditional leaders, and farmers to effectively tackle livestock theft.
The Executive Mayor stressed the importance of collective action to protect rural livelihoods and appreciated stakeholder participation to find solutions to these challenges.
